How we help

Moving to Florida from another state means choosing an area from a distance, sorting out insurance and flood questions you may not have had before, and timing a purchase or lease around a move. Tell us where you're coming from, where you're looking and when, and we'll connect you with a licensed real-estate professional.

  • Comparing areas by commute, type of housing, price range and the amenities you care about.
  • Video tours and remote showings before you travel.
  • Renting first, buying first, or both — planning the order of the move.
  • Florida insurance basics: wind mitigation, four-point inspections and flood coverage.
  • Condominium and HOA approval timelines built into your moving date.
  • After closing: a reminder to file for the homestead exemption with the county property appraiser.

What newcomers usually ask about

Florida has no state personal income tax. A home that is your permanent residence may qualify for the homestead exemption; you apply to your county property appraiser, and the deadline is March 1 for that tax year.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Insurance, wind-mitigation features and the flood zone are worth checking before you choose a home, not after.

Relocation questions, answered

Should I rent before I buy?
Renting first lets you learn an area and its commute before committing. Buying first can make sense when you know where you want to be. We'll talk through both.
Can I buy without visiting?
Many buyers tour by video and sign electronically. An independent inspection is still important, and if you can visit before closing, it's worth it.
When is the market busiest?
In many parts of Florida, winter and spring bring more out-of-state buyers and seasonal renters. Timing varies by area, so ask about the one you're considering.
How do I compare areas from far away?
By commute, the type of housing available, price range, amenities, and insurance and flood factors. Those are the questions to bring to every area you're considering.
